The building automation industry has long operated in the realm of operational technology (OT), including BACnet controllers, Modbus sensors and proprietary field networks that are reliable and proven but largely disconnected from the broader IT and cloud ecosystem. As building owners increasingly demand real-time analytics, cloud dashboards, tenant applications and portfolio-wide visibility, bridging this OT/IT gap has become one of the most important challenges in our industry.
Over the past several years, we have been developing a range of purpose-built IoT devices and data centre solutions designed specifically to solve this challenge. Rather than forcing building operators to choose between their proven OT infrastructure and the capabilities of modern IT platforms, our products act as the bridge, translating, aggregating and transporting building data between these two worlds seamlessly and securely.
At the heart of our IoT ecosystem is the Sync Edge Gateway. This compact, DIN-rail mounted device sits at the boundary between the field network and the cloud, natively translating BACnet IP, BACnet MS/TP and Modbus RTU/TCP data into structured MQTT messages with automatic topic mapping and payload normalisation. Built-in edge processing handles local rule execution and data aggregation, while store-and-forward buffering ensures no data is lost during network interruptions. For organisations that need comprehensive environmental sensing without the cost and complexity of traditional wired installations, our Sync Sensor Suite provides wireless temperature, humidity, CO2, occupancy and light level monitoring with up to five years of battery life and rapid deployment in occupied buildings.
For data centre environments, where the demands for precision monitoring are even more acute, we have developed the Sync DCiM Platform and the Sync Environmental Monitoring System. The DCiM Platform provides real-time visibility across power distribution, cooling systems and rack capacity with automated PUE calculation and capacity planning. The Environmental Monitoring System delivers rack-level temperature and humidity sensing at accuracies of ±0.2 °C, enabling hot spot detection and closed-loop cooling optimisation. Together, these products give data centre operators the granular, real-time data they need to maximise uptime, efficiency and SLA compliance. Our IoT devices are now deployed across dozens of sites in Australia, from single commercial buildings to multi-site retail portfolios and mission-critical data centres. If you are looking to bridge the gap between your building OT systems and modern IT platforms, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss how our solutions can help.
